At a presentation ceremony in the Strand Hotel, Emerald secretary and coach Mike Kirwan deservedly won a Service to Sport award for his oustanding contribution to Community Games and Athletics.

Other Emerald officials have neen honoured with this award before, including Noelle Morrissey and Ger Lavin.

In his introduction to Mike's award, Tom Foley listed Mike's outstanding work at Emerald and the Community Games, including getting grants, equipment, organising the website, coaching, and fulfilling many other important roles.

Overall, 12 people, from a variety of sports, won awards this year. Mike was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Monica and several Emerald coaches who had a really enjoyable night out in support of Mike.
