Gold for Emerald boys at Munster Indoors U9-U13
NENAGH, Saturday & Sunday 6th & 7th February 2010

Two Emerald athletes won brilliant golds at Munster Juvenile Indoor Championships at Nenagh on Sunday.

Mark Bromell won the U13 Boys Shot with a fantastic personal best of 10.44 metres. Mark won the Munster and National titles in 2009, but nonetheless still produced a fantastic personal best in his second throw to take the 2010 title. In the end, he won the competition by over a metre.

Jamie Mitchell took gold in the U12 Boys 60m, winning his first ever Munster title in superb style. It was a fantastic recovery by Jamie, who wasn't feeling well earlier and had a poor run in his 600m heat. It sure didn't affect his sprinting and he won his 60m heat, semi-final and final to take his first ever Munster gold - last year it was silvers for Jamie at 60m and 600m!

Other excellent performances included Gearoid Mitchell, who took 4th in the U13 Boys High Jump, 6th in the Shot Putt and 8th in the 60m Hurdles. Gearoid also competed in the 60m and 600m events and had the businet wekend of any athlete.

On Saturday, there were great final performances by Kate Cosgrave (5th - U13 Girls 600m), Bronagh Kelly (4th - U11 Girls 60m) and Ciara Neville (5th - U12 Girls 60m).

We had 3 Boys' relay teams on the Sunday, one team, for the U10 boys, and two teams for the U11 boys. The boys for the U10 team were: Michael O'Hanrahan, Jordan O'Sullivan, Daire Ryan and Conor Deegan. For the U11 team the boys were Michael O'Hanrahan, Niall Mitchel, David and Maurice Leahy, Killian Moloney, Conor Coughlan, Tom Ryan and Cathal McCarthy. All three teams ran well but there were about 5 heats with 3 or 4 teams in each heat with only the fastest 4 teams qualifying for the final so unfortunately none of boys teams qualified for the finals.

Our Girls' relay teams today were also out of luck, but we'll have practised these much more by the time the summer competitions roll around.

Overall, our entry at Nenagh wasn't as high as it might have been, and definitely low in numbers at this event. So - let's get down to training again, enter the competitions, and the countdown to the summer season starts now!
