Titles, medals and breakthroughs for Emerald at Nenagh Indoor Championships
NENAGH, Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th March 2010

Shane Fitgerald on the way to a bronze in the U18 Boys 800m at NenaghMunster Indoors

Congratulations to the athletes, relays teams and coaches and all involved in a great weekend for Emerald AC at the Munster Juvenile Indoor Championships for U14-U19 ages.

The Club won 16 individual medals (seven gold, four silver and five bronze) as well as 6 relay team medals (three gold, two silver and one bronze) over the two days.

And there were some special performances. Amy O'Donoghue took double gold (U17 Girls 800m in a Munster indoor record time - Amy also took the 1500m title) as did Nicole Lavin (U15 Girls 60m & 60m Hurdles). And Jenna Bromell turned in another magnificent performance in smashing the Munster Indoor record for the U14 Girls 800m.

There was a fantastic breakthrough for Shane Fitzgerald, who won his first ever Munster title with a brilliant run from the front in the U18 boys 200m. Shane also took home two other individual track medals. And what a track debut for Kyle Larkin! Kyle only joined the club in time for the cross country season last autumn and had shown remarkable improvement with every outing. On Saturday in Nenagh, he ran a marvelllous race to win the U16 Boys 1500m in tremendous style.

Other notable performances included a silver/bronze double for Roisin Harrison (2nd U15 Girls Long Jump & joint 3rd High Jump), two bronzes for Marie Heelan (U16 Girls 60m & 200m) and a silver for Eoin Synnott (U18 Boys 60m Hurdles). Thomas Blake won his first ever Munster indoor medals with a silver in the U16 Boys 60m, and a bronze in the 200m.

Emerald featured in many finals, and there were notable 4th places for Alan Cummins (U16 Boys 60m Hurdles), Emma Dooley (U18 Girls 60m), Barry Nash (4th U15 Boys High Jump & 4th 60m Hurdles) and Julie Doheny (U18 Girls 200m).

In the relays, Emerald took silver in the U14 Girls (Aoife Dooley, Becky Danaher, Niamh Brennan and Jenna Bromell ), gold in U15 Girls (Roisin Harrison, Erina McGrath, Jenna Bromell, Nicole Lavin and Denise Kennedy), gold in U16 girls (Lynn O'Mara, Nicole Lavin, Áine Dooley and Marie Heelan), gold in U17 Girls (Amy O'Donoghue, Caroline Hickey, Sarah Lavin and Laura Cosgrave), along with silvers U18 Boys (Evan Crotty, Eoin Synnott, Ryan Dore and Shane Fitzgerald). The U18 Girls (Emma Dooley, Julie Doheny, Laura Cosgrave and Amy O'Donoghue)took a deserved bronze.

The one bit of bad luck on the day hit Eoin Synnott, disqualified after a false start in the final of the U18 Boys 60m, when he was among the favourites for medals. Put it down to experience!

Well done to everyone that represented the Club so well, and congratulations to all those who have qualified for Nationals.
