TULLAMORE, Saturday 24th July 2010

Sarah Lavin on the podium after victory in the U17 Girls 200m

Congratulations to Sarah Lavin and Amy O'Donoghue who won fantastic national titles at Tullamore today, and to Roisin Harrison who was 2/100ths of a second away from making it an Emerald hat-trick!

In the U17 Girls 200m final, Sarah had a battle to win the title from Grainne Moynihan of West Muskerry AC who led briefly in the race. Sarah has been concentrating on the shorter sprint distances this season and was delighted to take the National title in a hard-fought event.

Amy took the U17 Girls 1500m convincingly from the rest of the field. She has been dominant at both 800m and 1500m distance for a few years now, but when it counts, Amy still digs deep to produce the results against good competitors. An outstanding middle distance double!

Roisin almost capped her comeback season after injury with a National title, but lost out by 2/100ths of a second! Roisin had taken the Munster title in great style, but was just edged out by Kathy Berney of Newbridge in a thrilling finish. Great to have you back Roisin and well done!

Marie Heelan took a a fine 4th place in Ireland in the U16 Girls 200m, won by Ciara Giles Doran of Ferrybank, in tough conditions.

Shane Fitzgerald took 7th place in the final of the U18 Boys 200m.
